Here is what has been going on with our members…
Invitation Extended to LARCS
Our friends at Loganholme Aeromodellers Radio Controlled Society (LARCS) have been going through some hard times with the loss of their field due to flooding and some recent development. The RAMS Committee has extended an open invitation to our fellow LARCS members to fly some of their electric planes at our field during this time so if you see a couple of new faces please make them welcome. The usual rules apply for all visitors to our field (All visitors are allowed 4 free visits within any 12 month period, after that they are expected to join the club as an associate ($120 senior, Free Junior)).
Update on Days Off
We have had the usual cricket, school and hockey bookings of our field which tend to clobber our flying sessions and recently, with all of the bad weather and COVID situation, this has played havoc with trying to keep everyone informed of what is, and then is not happening. The latest update from the council is the following flying days will be impacted;
- Sunday 18th April (No flying – The RAMS Committee will be utilising this time to hold a committee meeting at the club) – Judy Holt Park is not available this day to use as a backup
- Sunday 25th April (ANZAC Day) – This is a backup day in case the 18th April is rained out (You will be notified by Bulletin if this is impacted). At this point we are able to fly this day, if this changes and the cricket is to be moved to this day the Council have advised we can use Judy Holt Park as an alternative if we wish.
“The sky is NOW the limit”, Cal Moss

Congratulations to RAMS Member Cal Moss who, alongside his love of RC aircraft, has invested a significant amount of time into pursuing Paragliding. Recently Cal was given his PG2 rating, by passing all his exams and training flights, and is now headed for the skies. He has kindly provided some photos of him on location and of the location itself at Lennox Head.

Smash Up Derby Day
We have had a suggestion RAMS hold an aerial ‘Smash Up Derby Day‘ at the club. A time where we can bring along one of our old planes, string up a couple of helium balloons in the middle of the field on a long string and try hit them (and each other). We will provide about 6 weeks notification leading up to the day. We will take heaps of photos and video and post them up for everyone to see. There is another suggestion of putting on a sausage sizzle (Which our Treasurer John McGowan has put up his hand to coordinate) but he will need some volunteers to;
- Collect the meat, bread and sauces and bring it to the club
- Help setup
- Cook <– John mentioned he can do most other things but if someone could cook would be awesome !!
- Clean up
Please email John McGowan at treasurer@ rams.asn.au to express your interest in helping out.
Day at Beechmont
Cal, JJ and Sharne took off to Beechmont to fly some sloap soarers and picked up some quick breezes causing the ferrari to cartwheel…
